A former member of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack baseball team has been awarded a special honor. Outfielder Anthony Cros (2004-2008) has been named to the 2009 All-Canadian College team by the Canadian Baseball Network.
“This is one of the most prestigious awards I’ve ever received,” says Cros, who was a past Canadian College Baseball Conference All-Star.
Cros was chosen to the Canadian Baseball Network team by a panel of 49 voters which included scouts and Canadian baseball personalities. They had to choose from among more than 750 Canadian baseball players attending college in the United States. Cros, who moved to Northwestern Oklahoma State University to play with the Rangers. In 2009, he started in 51 of 53 games they played. Cros had a batting average of .441 with 15 homers and 63 runs batted in. He stole all ten of the bases he attempted.
Last summer, Cros spent time in the Western Major Baseball League playing with a number of former WolfPack teammates with the Okatoks Dawgs.
“This award is special to me because I come from France, a country that is off the baseball radar,” the native of Montepellier said. “ I worked hard over there through high school and my goal was to play college ball in North America. To compare this with the other honours I’ve received, its like when you receive a piece of paper that says you have now completed a university degree. In a way, I end my collegiate career on a high notes.”
Cros, who spent the fall semester (2009) at TRU has returned to France to play with the Montpellier Barracudas (French Elite League). He’ll play there until May before returning to North America with the hopes of playing professional baseball.
“I’m really looking forward to the 2010 season,” he says. “ It’ll be a transition year. I hope to sign with an independent baseball team. I’m currently in touch with the Quebec Capitales of the Can-Am league: they’ve shown interest in seeing me wear their jersey this season. Regardless of where I end up, my goal is to sign professionally. I believe I can play at the next level and I am eager to show it. I”ll also participate in the European Championships with the French National team at the end of July.”
