KAMLOOPS – A student-athlete with experience starring at the collegiate level is set to the join the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team, as head coach Chad Jacobson is pleased to announce that Steve Stinson has committed to the 'Pack.

"We are extremely excited to announce that Steve Stinson will be joining the WolfPack men's basketball team for the 2024-2025 season," said Jacobson. "Steve's addition to the program will make an immediate impact both on and off the court. Steve's experience, competitive spirit and combination of skill and athleticism will help to strengthen our backcourt this upcoming season."

From San Diego, California where he suited up for San Diego Mesa Community College, Stinson will be entering his third year of eligibility after playing a pair of seasons for his hometown squad.

"I like to think of myself as a very resilient, tough-minded, gritty, and intelligent basketball player that can get to the rim as well as make plays for others and shoot the three ball," said Stinson. "I want to say that I'll be bring lots of energy and positivity to the program above everything, because I pride myself on ultimately being a great teammate that just wants to do anything it takes to win."

Stinson was named a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference First Team All-Conference player last year after a season in which he averaged 16.6 points- and 3.3 assists-per-game.

"I decided to join the 'Pack mainly because of the belief that the coach had in me as a player," said Stinson. "He made me feel like I was wanted and valued at this program."

While the trip north of the border will be a new experience for Stinson, he joins a long line of American standouts that have suited up for TRU, including Canada West All-Stars Justin King and Ta'Quan Zimmerman. Most recently Daniel Bost from Seaside, California and Jason Okoro from Plano, Texas played for the 'Pack just last season.

"One thing I am looking forward to is a fresh start with new experiences while studying something that I want to pursue a career in," said Stinson. "I have never been to Canada before, but I plan to do a lot of sight-seeing when I am not studying or playing basketball."

High-achieving in the classroom as well as on the court, Stinson is an honour roll student that is pursuing a bachelor of science degree.

"Not only is Steve a high-level player, but he is a strong academic student as well as proven leader," said Jacobson. "There is no doubt that Steve will represent WolfPack Athletics, Thompson Rivers University, and the community the right way."
