Women's Rugby sevens finish 8 th in first tourney

It was a learning experience for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack as they began their second season in the Canada West women's rugby seven's league.
Playing at a tournament in Edmonton, the Pack finished eighth out of eight teams.   They lose all four of their matches including one Sunday (Jan 20) to one of the newer teams in the league: the University of Regina Cougars.

The score was 55-0.

Earlier in the day, the WolfPack were shut out 64-0 by the host Alberta Pandas.

Says head coach Derek Pue, "We had a couple of serious injuries on day two and the girls had to play some long minutes. The girls battled but both games we lost by big margins. The second half of the game against Regina, we had to play with six players. The scores overall were lopsided but we are making progress. We know it's going to be a hard road getting this program competitive and this is part of the progress."

The WolfPack lost their games by a combined total of 265-5.

TRU has two more tournaments: next month in Abbotsford, BC and then March in Vancouver, BC.
Then the Canada West will decide whether or not to make women's rugby sevens a true varsity sport.
