TRU Athletics Hall of Fame



The TRU Athletics Hall of Fame was founded in 2019 and exists to honour those who have contributed significantly to post-secondary sport as an athlete, coach, team, or builder. All athletic efforts throughout the history of the institution, including Cariboo College (CC), the University College of the Cariboo (UCC), and Thompson Rivers University (TRU) are eligible for induction.  Any individual or organization is invited to submit a nomination.

Criteria for selection of inductees in each of the categories:

 

Athlete

  • Normally, selection criteria for this category includes:
  • Nominees must have been a CC, UCC, or TRU student-athlete for at least two years at the varsity level.
  • Athletes must have graduated from CC, UCC, or TRU.  Under some circumstances, the selection committee may give special consideration to athletes who have not graduated.
  • Nominees must have achieved distinction in their sport, i.e., at appropriate league, provincial, conference, national or international level.
  • In addition to athletic excellence, consideration may be given to factors such as; character, leadership, integrity, and service to CC/UCC/TRU or community.
  • A five-year waiting period upon completion of varsity career is required before an athlete is eligible for consideration. At times, the selection committee may give special consideration to waive this period.
 

Team

  • Normally, selection criteria for this category includes:
  • Must have represented CC/UCC/TRU with distinction at the provincial, conference, national and/or international level of competition, as evidenced by team medals, championships, winning percentage, or another form of team recognition.
  • In addition to athletic excellence, consideration may be given to factors such as service to CC/UCC/TRU or community.
  • A five-year waiting period is required before a team is eligible for consideration.
 

Coach

  • Normally, selection criteria for this category includes:
  • Must have served as a head coach at CC/UCC/TRU for a minimum of five years.
  • Must have exhibited outstanding coaching and leadership skills as demonstrated through local, provincial, conference, national, or international recognition.
  • A coach is eligible for consideration 5 years after the culmination of his/her coaching career at TRU.
  • Special consideration may be given to current coaches who have been coaching varsity athletes at TRU for a minimum of 10 years.
 

Builder

  • This category includes trainers, managers, administrators and other contributors.
  • Individual must have made a significant contribution to the development and/or enhancement of the CC/UCC/TRU athletic program.
  • Must have provided or developed opportunities for student-athletes to excel.
  • Must have been involved with the CC/UCC/TRU athletic program for a minimum of 5 years (these need not be consecutive).
  • The efforts of the nominees must have won credit and respect for the athletics programs, sport and the institution.
 
The inductees, will be honoured at the annual end-of-season Athletic Awards Night. Nominations are accepted on an on-going basis and must be submitted by the end of February in order to be considered for that year’s induction ceremony. Nominations will stay on file for up to five years after submission.
