Awarded since 2014. the Newcomer of the Year was originally given to just one student-athlete per year but has since expanded to two. The award is given to an athlete in their first year with TRU - not necessarily a rookie in terms of eligibility, they could be a transfer student as well. These individuals have major and immediate impacts on the success of their team.

Floor Ursem | Soccer | 1st Year | Uitgeest, NED
Making 46 saves and earning four shutouts this season, Ursem was outstanding in her first season with the WolfPack. Coming to Kamloops from the Netherlands, Ursem was named to both the Canada West and U SPORTS All-Rookie teams, becoming just the second player in program history to make a national all-rookie squad.
Cason Scott | Basketball | 1st Year | Kamloops, BC
Starting 10 conference games as a true freshman while averaging 11.1 points-per-game, Scott made an immediate impact for the 'Pack. The Kamloops local was named to the Canada West All-Rookie Team after helping TRU make the conference playoffs for the second-consecutive year.
