WOLFPACK HOCKEY SETS TRAINING CAMP DATES

Thompson Rivers University’s  newest sports team has set the dates for their first ever training camp.  The men’s hockey club, under the direction of Chris Hans will take to the ice starting Tuesday September 8 th at the Interior Savings Center.

Training Camp will be short confined to three days (September 8, 9 and10) with Inter-Squad scrimmages each evening,” says Hans. “ I intend to cut down to roster of 25 after the 3 Inter-Squad games. Greg Kozoris will conduct fitness testing September 8-10 and will commence our ongoing Strength and Conditioning In-Season Program the week of September 14th. 

 

Hans says they have had some 48 players indicate they would like to try out for the team including those who have previous experience in Junior “B”, Junior “A” and one former Western Hockey League player.  Kamloops native and former Storm Captain David Gore (Kamloops, BC) has already committed to the program.

 

The WolfPack plan to have at least two exhibition games.  Scheduling for the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League is to be conducted in a couple of weeks with league play starting in mid to late October.

 

TRU will utilize Memorial Arena as their base of operations.  Kamloops Collegiate Hockey Society President Mitch Zulinick says “

"With the support and assistance of the City of Kamloops we are very excited to have Memorial Arena as our home our Arena, as Pat O'Brien (first Athletic Director at Cariboo College) recollects, it was the first arena the original team played in".

 

 

Hans will soon name the rest of his coaching staff and says he is excited about training camp approaching. “

The return of collegiate hockey to the great hockey community of Kamloops is very exciting!  We intend to ice a team that the university and the community will be proud to support. I anticipate a very competitive training camp and invite everyone to come and the Inter-Squad games in September. “

 

The WolfPack Hockey Club, which will run as a society similar to Baseball and Men’s Golf has a major fundraising initiative in the coming weeks.  They are looking for key support from the community to ensure the teams operation for the season.  Society Director Troy Clifford states: “In addition we are working with the Alumni and looking forward to them playing a key role in the success of the team.”
