The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s hockey league played well, during their first game back on the road since Oct. 22, 2011. The game took place Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011 at Langley Events Centre with the puck dropping at 1:00 PM.
The WolfPack fought hard and came home with a 6-1 win against Trinity Western University. One the way home, Head coach Don Schulz and some of the players had a chance to email, the nuts and bolts of tonight’s game.
Assistant caption Cody Lockwood said, “the game went well, it was good to get on the road again, and be on the bus with the guys.”
According to head Coach Don Schulz, the team played a good game despite, “the opposition [being] chippy and the officiating [being] questionable. Schulz added, “Our guys stayed the course, kept their composure and played well.”
Tonight’s win marks the third straight win for the TRU WolfPack. According to Lockwood, “We [TRU] started out strong, scoring a couple quick goals.”

Mick Ludvig scoring the first goal at 17:58 with assists from Joshua McDonald and Duncan Schulz. The team didn’t stop there, Duncan Schulz scored at 11:12, assisted by Joshua McDonald and Cody Lockwood.
Jassi Sangha assisted by caption Andrew Fisher, scored the final goal of the period at 6:34, giving TRU ad 3-0 lead over Trinity.
“I thought we executed offensively really well,” said Schulz.

During the second period, TRU didn’t let up. Dylan Becker assisted Kevin Nielson and he scored TRU’s fourth goal of the night at 10:25.

Kyle Allan, who’s been out of the lineup for two months with a concussion said, “It felt great to be back in the lineup and also being able to contribute with some goals towards the win.” He scored the final game of the period at 16:57 with an assist from Kevin Neilson. According to Allan tonight’s game went well because of, “a great team effort by every guy on the team.”
During the third period, Trinity Western University came back by scoring the first goal of the period at 18:15. The goal was scored by Kyle Benjaminsen assisted by Matt Chaput
and Brendan Elenko.
However, TRU didn’t let that faze them. Allan scored his second goal of the night at 16:57 assisted by Duncan Schulz. His goal was the final goal of the period which gave TRU ad 6-1 lead over Trinity.

Lockwood said, “Riley Wall played awesome tonight stopping some key shots.” Allen agreed also saying Wall, “made some key saves and key times in the game to get [them] the win.

In other TRU hockey news, this upcoming week marks the last week that some members on the team will be sporting mustaches. Keep an eye during their next game on Sat. Dec 3, 2011 against Selkirk College to see which players couldn’t wait to get rid of their scruffy looks. The game will be held at memorial arena with the puck dropping at 8PM.
