WVB split with Alberta

The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack moved back into the win column as they rallied from a first set loss to take the Alberta Pandas 3-1 in Canada West women's volleyball action at the Tournament Capital Centre on Saturday (Nov 9).
The scores were 19-25,25-14,25-23,26-24.

Thompson Rivers was led offensively by Kendra Finch (5th year, outside hitter, North Vancouver, BC).  Finch emerged from a rare 'off' match by notching 12 kills on 41 chances with two service aces and nine digs.

Olga Savenchuk (2nd year, outside hitter, Donetsk, Ukraine) added 10 kills on 25 swings with 12 digs and three block assists.
Alberta was led again by their 'dynamic duo' of Kory White  (4th year, outside hitter, Edmonton, AB) and Julia Zonneveld (3rd year, outside, Calgary, AB).  They had 15 kills in 42 opportunities and 12 kills in 45 swings respectively.

Alberta falls to 2-4  while the WolfPack move up to 5-1 on the season
 
SYNOPSIS:

 White   had a record setting night on Friday night and she continued her torrid start to the season in this one as they won the first set 25-19.  White had seven kills in 11 swings. Zonneveld  added 5 kills in 13 swings. TRU was led by Kseniya Kocyigit (1st year, middle , Byaroza, Belarus)  and Savenchuk  with three kills.

The second set saw the WolfPack capture the first five points before Alberta called a time out.  That break failed to cool off TRU server Avery Pottle (4th year, outside, Uxbridge, ON). She and her mates notched four more points which forced Pandas coach Laurie Eisler to call a second time out before Alberta got on the board trailing 9-1. Those nine points were all served by Pottle.  The WolfPack squaring the match with a 25-13 decision. In that set, Kendra Finch (5th year, outside hitter, North Vancouver, BC) had four kills  and two service aces.

In the third set, the Pandas had a five point lead at one point before back to back kills from Finch tied things up at 17 and the Pack took the lead in the match.  Finch had three kills in that set and added five more in the final one as Thompson Rivers went onto its fifth victory in six starts

Abby Spratt (4th year, setter, Calgary, AB) had 33 assists, four services ace, nine digs and one block assist.  Anastasiia Muzkyka (3rd year, setter, Poltawa, Ukraine) chipped in with 11 assists and eight digs for the WolfPack.  Alberta's setter, Elyse Hart  (3rd year, Bragg Creek, AB) had 40 assists, eight digs and four block assists.

NEXT UP:

The WolfPack wrap up their homestand next weekend (Nov 15-16) as they entertain the University of Regina Cougars in a pair of matinee matches at the TCC.  Both are noon PDT starts. On Friday, Thompson Rivers will host its annual 'school day' where they invite both elementary and secondary students to the Tournament Capital Centre to experience university sports.  A crowd of over 12 hundred children is expected that day.. The Pandas will host the Winnipeg Wesmen next weekend.
