Sagno with 3 points leading MSOC over UFV

The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack rebounded in a big way in Canada West men's soccer play on Sunday.  The Pack rallied from a 3-0 set back against Trinity Western on Saturday (Sept 28) with a solid 3-2victory over the University of Fraser Valley Cascades on the Warner Rentals field at Hillside Stadium.
The Pack were led by Daniel Sagno who had three points: two goals and one helper in the first half.

Thompson Rivers moves to 3-3-4 on the year while UFV drops to 3-4-4. The WolfPack were playing a second match without James Fraser. The 4th year forward from Penticton, BC led the Canada West in goals going into this weekend. He missed both matches due to back issues.

 SYNOPSIS

The WolfPack opened the scoring off a corner kick only five minutes in.  Daniel Sagno (3rd year, forward, Winnipeg,MB) took the corner on the right side and sent a shot in front of the Fraser Valley goal where Jan Pirrates Glasmacher (3rd year, defender, Barcelona, Spain) was able to get his head on it.  For the 2018-19 Canada West second team all-star, it was his second goal of the year.
It didn't take Fraser Valley long to tie things up.  In the 10th minute,  Jehmode Kahtan (1st year, forward, Abbotsford, BC)  was able to get the ball from 2018-19 Canada West first team all-star Gurmann Jhag  (5th year, midfield, Aldergrove,BC) and poke the ball past rookie 'Pack keeper Olivier Jumeau (Lancashire, England).

The WolfPack dominated the ret of the first 45 minutes.  The took the lead when Sagno notched his first of the season at the 11 minute mark.

In the 43 rd, Sagno—who is a former Vancouver Whitecap residency player and saw some time with Canada's U-17 National team put on a brilliant exhibition of his skills. He took the ball at midfield and stormed down the right side of the field. He dispy doodled his way to the net and sent a rocket past a startled Fraser Valley keeper Ethan Duggan (1st year, North Vancouver, BC).  Adam Swanson (4th year, midfield, North Vancouver, BC) notched the assist.

It was 3-1 at the half and that forced UFV coach Tom Lowndes to swap keepers putting in fellow first year Jackson Cowx (Surrey, BC).

Fraser Valley cut the TRU lead to one in the 68 th minute.  Jhag took a corner kick on the left side of the pitch.  Nawaf Binsaleh (5t year, defender, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) got a piece of it.  His third goal of the season.

The Cascades outshot the WolfPack 17-16 : outgunning TRU 10-2.  UFV wound up with nine shots on goal compared to seven for Thompson Rivers.  Jumeau made 7 saves in the contest including three in the second half and faced four of his nine shots in that second period.  TRU had 13 fouls in the match to UFV's 10s.
