Women's Basketball split at Brandon

Another .500 weekend for he Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women's basketball team. The Pack rebounded from a 31 point loss on Friday to down the host Brandon University Bobcats 71-58 Saturday (Jan 18) at the Healthy Living Centre.

The Pack are now 7-7 while Brandon falls to 1-13.

Emma Piggin (5th year, guard, Kamloops, BC) had 24 points, nine rebounds and two steals to lead the Pack who were up 12-9 after the first quarter and led 32-25 at the half.
Jordin Wilkinson (4th year, guard, North Battleford, SK) had 14 points, six board and three steals.  Leilani Carney (5th year, guard, Burnaby, BC) added 12 points.  Brooklyn Golt (2nd year, post, Langley, BC) contributed eight points while Jordon Haggerty (3rd year, guard, Saskatoon, SK) had six points and three steals.   Megan Rouault (3rd year, guard, Vernon, BC) had four points and 10 rebounds.

Brandon was led by Adrianna Proulx  (4th year, guard/forward, Thompson MB) with 18 points and seven rebounds. Sydney Teece (1st year,forward, Regina,SK) had 11 points while both Laney Harder (2nd year, guard, Winkler, MB)  and Chelsey Misskey (3rd year, guard, Warman, SK)  each had nine points.  Harder added six rebounds while Misskey had three assists.

SYNOPSIS:

The Bobcats had 32 points in the paint compared to 24 for the WolfPack.  TRU got 22 points off turnovers and their bench scored 17 points. Brandon had 11 points off turnovers and their bench scored 12.

WolfPack head coach Goran Nogic stated, " Our defensive attitude was completely different that Friday.  Both Jordon Haggerty and Leilani Carney limited their best shooting guard to eight points. Emma Piggin took responsibility for the offense. Together with Jordin Wilkinson and Leilani, we shot over 40 per cent from the three point area.  Megan and Emma fought very hard to win rebounds which was critical to our success."
 
NEXT UP: The road trip continues for Thompson Rivers the following weekend (Jan 24-25) when they will go from the eastern most part of Canada West to the most western destination: Victoria.  The Pack will take on the U Vic Vikes in two games.

They will then return home for their final two contests of the regular season at the Tournament Capital Centre. The WolfPack will entertain the University of Fraser Valley Heat on January 31st and February 1st.  That is "Alumni Weekend" and will feature "Donors" being honored on the Friday evening. The Saturday will see Thompson Rivers' two fifth year players—Emma Piggin (Kamloops, BC) and Leilani Carney (Burnaby, BC) honored after the contest.

The Bobcats will visit Prince George, BC and meet the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves next weekend (Jan 24-25)
