Womens Volleyball splits at Mount Royal

The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women's volleyball team continued their remarkable streak of not being swept this Canada West season.

Playing a big weekend against the host Mount Royal Cougars, the WolfPack rebounded from a straight set defeat on Fridau (Jan 17) to down the Cougars 3-1 on Saturday (Jan18) on Kenyan Court.
The scores were 25-19,25-18,21-25,25-20.   Thompson Rivers moves to 13-5 on the year while Mount Royal falls to 13-3.

Thompson Rivers was led by Kendra Finch (5th year, outside hitter, North Vancouver, BC). She had 14 kills and 14 digs.  Kseniya Kocyigit (1st year, middle, Byaroza, Belarus) had 10 kills and four blocks. While Abby Spratt impressed her friends and family. The fourth year setter from Calgary, AB had 38 assists, three service aces and five blocks.

Katie Ludvig (3rd year, libero, Kamloops, BC) had 13 digs.  Olga Savenchuk (2nd year, outside hitter, Donetsk, Ukraine) had nine kills.  Avery Pottle (4th year, outside hitter, Uxbridge, ON) had six blocks and two service aces while Erin Mutch (2nd year, outside hitter, Victoria, BC) had nine digs and two service aces.

Mount Royal was led by Dholi Thokbuom  with 13 kills, seven blocks and one service ace.  Chantel Park had seven kills, four service aces and one assist.  Haley Roe had six kills.
Quinn Pelland had 21 assists, six digs and three blocks while Natalia Klimenova had seven digs.

WolfPack head coach Chad Grimm stated, " Much better performance from us tonight. I thought we continued to do a decent job of passing the ball. Offensively we were much better. Our outside hitters did a much better job of managing the game for the most part.  When they went on runs, it was because we weren't managing the ball.  Overall, we did a much better job and our block defense was much improved.  Last night, we gave away too many points off our block that we weren't able to defend.  I thought what we went over in the morning—we did a much better job of sticking to that and doing it effectively and that led to a better result."

The WolfPack will return home after the match to prepare for another chapter in their battle with their closest geographical rivals: the University of British Columbia Okanagan Heat on January 24th and 25th at the Tournament Capital Centre. Friday night (Jan 24), the match will begin at 645 pm PDT with Saturday's encounter (Jan 25) set for 5:00 pm PDT.  The Cougars will play their cross town rivals the University of Calgary Dinos:  Thursday  (Jan 23rd) and then Friday.(Jan 24).

All of the above games can been seen on a pay per view basis on Canada West TV  presented by Co-op by accessing: https://cw.yaretv.com/.   Results will be available on the WolfPack social media platforms and their website  www.goWolfPack.ca.
