Fifty years of athletic accomplishments and contributions to the varsity programs at Cariboo College, the University College of the Cariboo and Thompson Rivers University will be enshrined forever with the creation of the TRU Athletics Hall of Fame.
"Over the past 50 years at this institution, we have had incredible people come through and support our programs. We felt that it was time to start honouring the outstanding individuals and teams that laid the foundation and helped the evolution of this program, getting us to where we are today," said TRU Athletic and Recreation Director
Curtis Atkinson.
In what will become an annual event during the Athletic Awards banquet, the WolfPack will be inducting members in the following categories: athletes, coaches, teams and builders.
The Hall of Fame will be open to anyone who played or coached a Chiefs, Gold Rush, Sun Demons or WolfPack team. The WolfPack will also induct in the builder category: people who made significant contributions to the athletic program in a variety of roles. Each category has a different set of nomination requirements.
"We want the Hall of Fame to have a high standard, involve our alumni family and be something that we can all be proud of. There have been a lot of remarkable contributions to this program and we need to recognize them along with educating the next generation of our athletes just how far our program has come," said Atkinson.
The WolfPack is currently accepting nominations for the Class of 2021 on an on-going basis and will keep that period open for the following year. Once submitted, a nomination will remain in the Hall of Fame's system for a maximum of three years.
A selection committee composed of different people from within the Athletic Department, TRU and WolfPack family will determine who is inducted each year.
This year, the Athletic Awards Banquet is set for April 2. An announcement will go out shortly before the event, and Hall of Fame plaques presented at the banquet before going on display outside the WolfPack Athletic Department office on the second floor of the Tournament Capital Centre.
