The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men's volleyball team got a little victory on Valentines Day. The Pack took a set off the defending national champion and number one ranked Trinity Western University Spartans.
TRU won the first set but then dropped the next three to the first place team in Canada West. The scores were 27-29, 25-14, 25-23,25-21.
That first set loss was only the 10
th one Trinity Western has suffered all season as they move to 20-1 on the year. Thompson Rivers falls to 7-14.
The Spartans were led by Jesse Elser (2
nd year, outside hitter, Calgary, AB) and Jacob Kern (5
th year, outside hitter, Edmonton, AB) . Both had 13 kills. Mathias Elser (1
st, year setter, Calgary, AB) had 12 kills. Derek Epp (3
rd year, setter, Saskatoon, SK) notched 46 assists for the Spartans. Jesse Elser had 11 digs for the winners.
Thompson Rivers was led by
Nimo Benne (1
st year, outside hitter, Castricum, Netherlands). He had nine kills and six digs.
Sam Taylor Parks (5
th year, middle, Kelowna, BC) had nine kills.
Kyle Behiels (5
th year, middle, Edmonton, AB) had seven kills and two blocks.
Charlie Bringloe (5
th year, outside hitter, Waterloo, ON) had four service aces, a block and five digs. He was named "The Den Leader of the Pack" player of the match
.
