KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team opened their 2021 non-conference schedule at home this past weekend, falling in a pair of games to the Lethbridge Pronghorns and Calgary Dinos.
Taking part in competitive play for the first time this season, the WolfPack fell 73-44 to the Pronghorns Friday night and 78-73 to the Dinos on Saturday.
Newcomer to the team
Danijela Kovacevic led the way Friday night, racking up 18 points and four steals but a young WolfPack roster struggled to get things going offensively, shooting just 24 per cent from the floor en route to the loss.
A bounce back performance on Saturday saw the 'Pack go toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the nation.
Face the Calgary Dinos, a team that finished first in the regular season in 2019-20 and advanced to the U SPORTS Final 8 as a wildcard, the WolfPack kept the game close throughout.
First-year forward
Elana Sireni went off for 17 points and nine rebounds in the game. Kovacevic added 14 more with
Kelsey Cruz (12) and
Anneke Cairnie (10) also finishing with double digits.
Next up for the 'Pack is a trip to Calgary where they will face the Dinos and Manitoba Bisons in more non-conference action.
