KAMLOOPS – A young Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team faded in the second half en route to an 88-46 loss at the hands of the UNBC Timberwolves on Saturday night.
 
A 12-4 WolfPack run to start the second half cut the lead to just seven points, but it was all Timberwolves down the stretch as they dominated the latter portion of the contest in the eventual 42-point win.
 
Kyla Smith led the WolfPack with 11 points while Kelsey Cruz and Maggie Fehr both chipped in with seven. TRU struggled offensively on the day, shooting just 26 per cent as a team. Meanwhile, the red-hot Timberwolves knocked down over 50 per cent of their shots on the day.
 
Alina Shakirova, Rebecca Landry and Anastasia Soltes powered the Timberwolves to the win with 21, 16 and 12 points respectively.
 
Smith was all over the place in a tight first quarter, scoring seven of the WolfPack's first nine points as the visiting 'Pack trailed by five after the opening frame.
 
UNBC extended their lead to 29-19 with five minutes left to go in the half and didn't look back, jumping out to a 37-22 lead at the half.

The WolfPack mounted a serious comeback out of the halftime break. The visitors went on a 12-4 run thanks in part to six points from Fehr and brought the lead down to just 41-34 but the comeback wasn't meant to be. UNBC immediately responded with a 10-0 run of their own before running away with the game late.
 
Next up for the 'Pack is a trip to Abbotsford for a pair of games against the Fraser Valley Cascades.
