KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers University women's soccer team will hit the road for the first time in their 2021 Canada West campaign this weekend, as they head to Kelowna for a pair of games with the UBC Okanagan Heat.

There were plenty of positive takeaways from the first weekend of Canada West action since 2019 for the WolfPack. Despite starting the season with losses of 2-0 and 3-0 to the UBC Thunderbirds, the 'Pack went toe-to-toe with the defending national champions and were by no means played off the field.

The Heat also had a pair of close games against a traditional national power. They started their season with losses of 3-2 and 2-0 in Langley at the hands of the Trinity Western Spartans.

The Interior rivalry weekend will also be the first of many between the two schools, as the annual Presidents' Cup competition kicks off once again. Contested every year since 2014, the Presidents' Cup is awarded to the school that takes the most points in the head-to-head games across all sports between TRU and UBCO throughout the year.

These squads played twice last season with the WolfPack coming out the better. TRU defeated UBCO 2-0 in Kelowna and the two teams played to a 1-1 draw in Kamloops

3 Things

1: This weekend will serve as the first Presidents' Cup competitions of the season, with the schools also scheduled to meet in basketball (Oct. 30, Feb. 18-19) and volleyball (Nov. 12-13, Jan. 28-29)

2: The WolfPack enjoyed the road in 2019, with both of their conference victories coming away from Hillside Stadium.

3: This weekend figures to be an important one for two teams vying to earn a Canada West playoff berth. UBCO was picked 10th in the conference coaches' poll with TRU just point behind in 11th.

By the Numbers

12 – Since 2014 when the Presidents' Cup competition was re-introduced, TRU has claimed 12 of a possible 14 trophies (7 men's, 5 women's) and currently have held both trophies since. 2018.
