Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | TRU WolfPack with files from Dinos Communications

WolfPack fall to Dinos, will host first-ever home playoff game Saturday

KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's soccer team were toppled in their final regular season game of 2022 on Sunday, falling by a score of 2-1 to the Calgary Dinos on the road.

Erica Mysko and Alison Pedersen scored for Calgary with Hawan Abdissa responding for TRU. The result solidified both team's places in the Canada West standings. Calgary moves to 8-4-2 and secures the third spot, while the WolfPack finish the season at 6-6-2 and in fourth place.

Advancing to the Canada West postseason for just the second time in program history, the WolfPack will host a playoff game for the first time this Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. inside Hillside Stadium. TRU will take on either the UNBC Timberwolves or UVic Vikes in that playoff match, with a late Sunday game between UNBC and UBCO deciding the opponent.

The Dinos got on the board in the early going. Mysko forced a turnover on the wing, sending the ball to the middle of the field where Pedersen was able to turn and one-time a blast from the edge of the box low and near post to make it 1-0 in the 14th minute.

TRU nearly leveled things up just a few minutes later, when Emily Clark ripped a shot from the 18-yard box, but Calgary keeper Katie French made a charge on the ball and covered up the rebound for one of her two saves on the afternoon.

Calgary took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break after a Mysko marker in the 26th minute.

Abdissa scored the first goal of her WolfPack career with just over ten minutes left to play as the WolfPack battled their way back into the contest.

A looping shot into the box forced French to make a play on it. The Dinos keeper punched the ball away but Abdissa was there for the rebound and lobbed the ball over the strewn bodies in the box, where it bounced it into the back of the net to cut the gap to 2-1.

That was as close as the 'Pack would come however as the Dinos were able to hang on for the victory.

The game brought an end to the regular season for a WolfPack squad that won six games for the first time in program history and they will now turn their attention towards the postseason.
