KAMLOOPS – 13 kills from
Thundersky Walkingbear powered the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-23, 28-26) victory over the Manitoba Bisons in Winnipeg.
"We had an exceptional performance tonight on the road," said WolfPack head coach
Pat Hennelly. "Overall, our service was stable and consistent and that really helped our team block."
Alongside Walkingbear,
Corbin Ockerman finished on 10 of his 16 attacks while also adding a pair of blocks.
Sam Flowerday led the way from the service line with five aces and only two errors. Fifth-year middle
Michael Svab was everywhere defensively for the 'Pack, picking up 6.5 blocks in the game.
TRU blew out the Bisons in the first set 25-16 before dropping a close second set 25-22. In the all-important third set the WolfPack found themselves trailing 7-1 before storming back for the win. Ockerman and Walkingbear had four kills in the frame with
Rylan Ibbetson recording three as the 'Pack took it 25-23.
Down 26-25 in the fourth set, Ockerman, Flowerday and Ibbetson recorded back-to-back-to-back kills to give the 'Pack the set and match victory.
"It's always tough to travel East and play an afternoon game, the team showed great composure and tenacity," said Hennelly.
TRU is back in action tomorrow afternoon for the second game of the weekend set in Winnipeg.
