KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team hung tough with the Manitoba Bisons but were unable to come up with the victory in a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 26-24) loss on the road.
The result gave the Bisons the weekend sweep over the WolfPack, though the 'Pack did well to rebound from a difficult outing yesterday and keep things close in this one.
Ema Palkovicova and
Brooklyn Olfert carried the offensive load for TRU, finishing with 12 and 11 kills respectively.
Erin Mutch had a strong all-around game with six kills, three aces and five blocks.
TRU hit .310 per cent as a team in the first set and led at 15-14 but a 9-4 Bisons run down the stretch allowed them to pull out the 25-21 victory.
Four blocks in the second set, three of which
Faith Christensen was a part of, powered the WolfPack in the frame. TRU jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the set but couldn't hold on as the Bisons used a six-point run in the middle of the set to pull away.
TRU's best set came in the third. Three kills from Mutch along with two from Olfert, Palkovicova and
Hayley McNaught allowed the WolfPack to jump out to a 20-16 lead before the Bisons rallied late and just squeaked out the 26-24 set victory.
The WolfPack now sit at 2-2 on the year. They will return to the friendly confines of the TCC this coming weekend when they host the Winnipeg Wesmen.
