KAMLOOPS – They pushed back late but an early hole was too big for the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team to climb out of in a 79-58 loss on the road to the Lethbridge Pronghorns.
TRU battled Lethbridge to an even 30-30 tally over the final 20 minutes of action but it wasn't enough for the 'Pack to pick up a positive result after they trailed 49-28 at the half.
Elana Sireni had a team-high nine points, all coming from long-distance shots, while
Jessica Orr added eight and
Kelsey Cruz and Makeba Taylor seven apiece. In total ten members of the 'Pack played over 15 minutes in the game with all ten registering points in the process.
Jessica Haenni led all scorers with 21 points while Hailey Weaver and Tobore Olome added 17 and 13 respectively for Lethbridge.
The Pronghorns won the board battle 32-22 and also made 43 per cent of their shots from the floor as a team.
TRU's best run of play came in the fourth quarter where the WolfPack outscored Lethbridge by a tally of 16-12 with Cruz, Sireni and Taylor all tallying three points.
The 'Pack will now return to Kamloops to play their final games of the first semester. They are set to host the MacEwan Griffins inside the TCC on Friday and Saturday night.
