KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's soccer team saw their program-best six game undefeated run come to an end Friday night in a 1-0 loss at the hands of the UVic Vikes.
TRU fired five shots towards goal but Kayley Lidstone stood tall in the Vikes net to earn the win.
Marissa Young made six stops in the losing effort.
The result was a key one in the Canada West Pacific Division standings. With the win Victoria moves to a record of 4-4-2 and hold 14 points. The exact same amount that the 4-3-2 WolfPack have earned. The two squads are tied for fourth in the standings and are locked in to a Canada West Play-In game where they will face either the fourth or fifth place team from the Prairie Division.
The loss brings an end to the WolfPack's most successful run in their Canada West history. After starting their season with a pair of defeats the WolfPack rattled off four wins and two ties over their next three weekends of action, by far the best stretch for the 'Pack since they joined Canada West in 2014.
Camryn Curts and
Emily Clark both had a pair of shots on net but the WolfPack's best chance to equal Sophie Murphy's 30th minute opener came from the foot of
Bridget Baird.
With just minutes left on the clock Baird slipped past a pair of Vikes defenders and hit a looping ball first time from the edge of the six-yard box but a diving Lidstone kept the ball out of the net.
Things don't get easier for the WolfPack tomorrow night, they head to Vancouver for a game against the No. 1 ranked team in the country, the UBC Thunderbirds. That game gets underway at 5:00 p.m. and can be watched live on canadawest.tv
