KAMLOOPS – A second quarter offensive explosion pushed the UBC Thunderbirds past the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team by 71-36 score line inside the TCC Friday night.
The WolfPack were led by
Makeba Taylor who had 10 points to go along with nine rebounds.
Josie Mackie drained eight points while
Megan Rouault pitched in with five.
Hailey Counsell had a game-high 15 points, shooting over 62 per cent from beyond-the-arc. Taelor Coxford contributed with 12 points and six rebounds, while Emily Martindale collected 11 rebounds to go with seven points.
TRU hung tough with the Thunderbirds through the first quarter, trailing just by just three points at the end of the opening frame. Mackie led the charge for the WolfPack with five points through 10 minutes and Taylor contributed on the back-end with four defensive rebounds. The Thunderbirds found their early offence from Coxford and Counsell who both drained six points in the frame.
The Thunderbirds started to heat up in the second and took control of the game, outscoring the WolfPack 22-6. Eight players got on the board in the second quarter for the Thunderbirds as they shot 40 per cent as a team and jumped out to a 40-21 at the break.
UBC was able to ride that momentum all the way until the final whistle. Sophia Bergman found her rhythm in the second half scoring all four of her points in the latter half of the game.
These same two teams will be back in action tomorrow night inside the TCC with tip-off slated for 5:30 p.m.
