Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack’s playoff hopes extinguished by No. 1 UBC

KAMLOOPS – A trio of goalscorers sent the No. 1 nationally-ranked UBC Thunderbirds past the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's soccer team Friday night.

The game was a must-win for the 'Pack who needed a six-point weekend to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Katalin Tolnai, Sophie Damian and Jade Taylor-Ryan scored for a UBC team that moves to 12-1 on the season with the victory.

Cassandra De Amaral came up with five stops in net for TRU, while Raiya Rumo had their lone shot on goal.

With Tolnai's goal coming from the penalty spot and Damian's effort being converted in extra time, the contest was much tighter than the 3-0 score line suggests.

De Amaral was everywhere in the first half, making four spectacular saves to keep the 'Pack in the game and the score level at halftime.

UBC's breakthrough came in the 55th minute of play and despite the 'Pack battling to come back, the Thunderbirds defence proved sound in the victory.

Second-year member of the 'Pack and Kamloops local Anika Black was named the MVP of the contest for TRU.

Holding a record of 4-7-2 and 14 points, TRU will now play their final game of the season this Sunday as they travel to Prince George for a game with the UNBC Timberwolves at noon.
