Weekend Story

KAMLOOPS – A crucial contest is ahead for a WolfPack women's soccer team that will play their final regular season home game of the 2023 campaign.

TRU will host the UBC Okanagan Heat (6-3-2) at Hillside Stadium on Friday night at 5 p.m. with the team holding a recognition for graduating member of the 'Pack Emily Clark prior to kickoff.

With just three games remaining on their schedule, the contest against UBCO will be an incredibly important one for a WolfPack team trying to qualify for the Canada West postseason for the second year in a row.

TRU holds a record of 4-5-2 and find themselves just barely outside of the playoff picture. Currently in sixth place, the WolfPack are four points back of the Fraser Valley Cascades for the fifth and final playoff spot. UBCO meanwhile is sitting in a tie for third on 20 points.

The squad earned a point out of a tough road swing last weekend, it started things off with a 1-1 tie against the UFV Cascades in Abbotsford before falling 4-0 to the TWU Spartans in Langley.

These teams met earlier in the season with UBCO picking up a 1-0 victory in Kelowna. TRU holds a 6-5-6 record in all-time Canada West play against the Heat with their last victory coming on Senior Night of last season.

3 Things

1: Emily Clark will be honoured prior to the contest, as the Kamloops local is the lone graduating player from the 'Pack and will play the last home game of her TRU career.

2: Fryer's Express and My Big Fat Greek Food Truck will both be serving up food at Hillside for the game.

3: The game also represents a chance for the 'Pack to pull even in the annual President's Cup standings.

By The Numbers

6: Emily Clark's six career regular season goals puts the forward fourth in the program record book.

5: Esi Lufo sits fourth in the conference with five assists in her first season with the 'Pack. That mark also ties the single-season program record for TRU.

13: Stefanie Young of UBCO leads the conference with 13 goals so far so this season.
