De La Mare’s double-double sends WolfPack to weekend sweep

QUICK FIRE
  • Rookie Kate De La Mare was a force all game long as the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team secured their first weekend sweep on the road since 2017 with a 70-54 win over the Brandon Bobcats.

LEADERS
  • De La Mare was a perfect 7-7 from the floor to finish with 22 points while also securing 15 rebounds and a trio of blocks. Kelsey Cruz (15 points), Priyanca Sundher (13) and Danijela Kovacevic (13) also broke double digits while Grace Hansen snagged 15 boards.
  • Reetta Tulkki was 4-9 from long distance to lead Brandon with 14 points.
  • TRU's 22 offensive rebounds led to 20 second-chance points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Six points in the first three minutes from De La Mare helped TRU jump out to an early 12-5 lead. The 'Pack led 22-11 after the opening ten minutes.
  • TRU kept that momentum in their favour throughout the second and third quarters and held a commanding 48-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
  • A massive three-pointer from Sundher to make the score 61-43 snuffed out any hopes of a Brandon comeback.

NOTABLE
  • The weekend sweep was the first for TRU since 2019 and the first on the road since 2017.
  • De La Mare's 22 points are the third-most for a rookie in program history.
  • De La Mare and Hansen's total of 15 rebounds tie them for the fifth-most by a rookie in program history.
  • The seven field goals that De La Mare hit without a miss is the most in program history by any player.
UP NEXT
  • TRU is back on home court this coming weekend when they host the Regina Cougars inside the TCC.
