Dominant second quarter sends Cougars to sweep of ‘Pack

QUICK FIRE
  • A 24-point advantage in the second quarter turned a close match into a comfortable 83 to 56 victory for the visiting Regina Cougars over the Thompson Rivers WolfPack in Canada West women's basketball action Saturday night.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Priyanca Sundher knocked down four three-pointers en route to a team-high 14 points for the 'Pack. Danijela Kovacevic added 12 points and four assists.
  • For the second night in a row U SPORTS All-Canadian Jade Belmore led Regina in scoring as she knocked down 20 points. Dayna Pearce (17 points) and Ryenn Schutz (15) rounded out the top scorers for Regina.
  • Regina snagged 52 rebounds to the WolfPack's 30.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The WolfPack were right in the thick of it early. Sundher knocked down a pair of threes in the opening minute-and-a-half of play and a bucket from Cruz put the finishing touches on a WolfPack run that saw the lead 13-8 halfway through the first frame. After the Cougars punched back another three from Sundher saw the score stand at just 24-21 in favour of Regina after the opening ten minutes.
  • That was as close as the score would be throughout the remainder of the night however as the Cougars romped to 30 points in the second quarter on 54.5 per cent shooting as a team. Pearce led the way with 13 points in the quarter as Regina jumped out to a 54-27 advantage that they'd never give up en route to the victory.

NOTABLE
  • The 14 points scored by Sundher are her most in a game this season and second-most in her TRU career.
  • TRU is now 2-4 on the season.
UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will head out on their bye next weekend before finishing their first half of the season schedule on the road at the University of Victoria.
