Weekend Story
KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women's soccer team will start the second half of their 2023 campaign at home this weekend when they face the Lethbridge Pronghorns and the Calgary Dinos in Kamloops.
TRU will host the Pronghorns (1-6-0) at Hillside Stadium on Friday night at 7 p.m. while the game on Saturday will be at MacArthur Island Field 2 against the Dinos (4-1-2) at 7:30 p.m.
Friday night will be a fun one inside Hillside with the 'Pack hosting their annual Puppies & Pints night in partnership with the BC SPCA – Kamloops. Dogs will be allowed inside Hillside Stadium and there will be informational booths set up at the entry to the game.
The WolfPack enter the weekend with a record of 2-4-1 and find themselves just barely outside of the Canada West playoff race with seven games left to play. TRU earned a point on the road last weekend but were unlucky not to come away with more from a trip to Saskatchewan. The 'Pack bothoutshot and outchanced the Saskatchewan Huskies in a 2-1 loss Saturday before being held to a 1-1 draw with the Regina Cougars on Sunday.
Lethbridge currently sits last in the Prairie Division of Canada West women's soccer with one win through their opening seven games. The Pronghorns enter the weekend on a six-game losing streak after starting their season with a win over Winnipeg. This will mark just the fourth time the two teams have met in regular season action with the previous three games ending with: one WolfPack win, one Lethbridge win and one tie.
Calgary meanwhile, enters the weekend near the top of the Prairie Division with just one loss to their name so far. The Dinos recorded ties of 3-3 and 0-0 last weekend with the TWU Spartans and UFV Cascades respectively. There is plenty of recent history between the two teams with the 'Pack and Dinos doing battle three times last season including on the Canada West bronze medal game.
3 Things
1: For Puppies & Pints night fans are encouraged to bring their furry friends out to Hillside. Fryer's Express and Mountaineer Kettle Corn will be serving up the food while the Kamloops SPCA will be operating an awareness booth at the game.
2: Saturday will be just the second time the 'Pack have played a regular season home game at a venue other than Hillside since joining Canada West in 2014.
3: Kamloops products
Emily Clark and
Ainsley Grether both enter the weekend with five career Canada West goals, good enough to tie for fourth in the program's CW history with fellow Kamloopsians Taylor Miller and Danielle Fauteux.
