Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack wrap up 2024 season with loss to Vikes

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's soccer team lost on the road in the final game of their 2024 season Sunday afternoon, falling to the UVic Vikes by a score of 4-0.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Cassandra De Amaral and Makayla Kusch split the game in the WolfPack net with Kusch making four saves in the loss.
  • Sophie Fingarson scored a pair of goals for the Vikes with Raina Hagel and Malia Phelan tallying late.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Despite TRU having some early pressure and firing three shots on goal in the frame, it was the hosts who led after 45 minutes of action. Just minutes before the halftime whistle Fingarson intercepted a pass deep in TRU territory and buried the ball into the back of the net.
  • The Vikes doubled their lead quickly in the second half when Fingarson headed home a corner kick.
  • TRU nearly pulled one back in the 60th minute. Alexis Virgo sent a free-kick into the box that Kat Stewart headed towards goal but her effort was caught by UVic goalkeeper Kayley Lidstone.
  • UVic added a pair of goals in the extra time to put the game away.

NOTABLE
  • The game was the final one in the WolfPack career of graduating student-athletes Cassandra De Amaral, Ainsley Grether, Raiya Rumo and Jessye Large. Fellow graduate Caylah Lemon missed out on the game due to injury.
  • Grether, a Kamloops local, leaves the program as the all-time leader in goals (10) and second in points (16).
  • The four games that TRU won this season is the fourth-most in the program's 10-year-long Canada West history.
