Cascades roll to sweep of ‘Pack

QUICK FIRE
  • They fought back in the third quarter, but the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team was unable to hang with the UFV Cascades in a 76-27 loss inside the TCC.
 
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Kate De La Mare opened up the game, leading the 'Pack through the game with five points and putting up a great defensive effort with three blocked shots. Morgan Eichenberger was all over the boards, both defensively and offensively, leading the team with 9 rebounds.
  • Kamloops local Maddy Gobeil had a game-high 28 points, knocking down a trio of three-pointers, to lead UFV to the win along with 4 steals and 4 blocked shots. Bernie Leda added 12 points to the scoreboard and Julia Tuchscherer dropped 9 points and led the game with 12 rebounds and 5 assists.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UFV came out ready to play, holding TRU to only 12 points in the first half to hold a 35-12 advantage through the first 20 minutes of play, Gobeil led the charge with 11 points in the first half.
  • The Wolfpack found their rhythm in the third quarter, making it their highest scoring quarter of the game and attacking the boards amassing 10 rebounds in the quarter. A big three-pointer from Olivia Randall and 100 per cent free throw percentages from Lucy Marchese and Olivia Wheatley helped TRU tally 12 points in the frame.
  • UFV played a dominant fourth quarter, amassing 24 points in their highest scoring frame of the game en route to the commanding victory.

  • UFV moves to 5-1 on the season while the 'Pack fall to 0-6.
