Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack battle hard but can’t overcome No. 8 Huskies

QUICK FIRE
  • They jumped out to an early lead but the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's volleyball team couldn't hold off a push from the host Saskatchewan Huskies in a 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-23) loss Saturday night.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Outside hitter Sam Flowerday fired down 11 kills and a pair of aces for the 'Pack. Middle Jakob Leinemann was electric with eight kills on just 11 attacks. Brothers Mason and Walker Sodaro combined for two solo and seven block assists with Walker also putting up 30 assists.
  • Emmett Graham was a force to be reckoned with for the Huskies as he accounted for 25 kills in the game. Isaiah Mamer added another 13.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • TRU took the first set on the strength of four kills courtesy of Dylan Annala. A 5-1 WolfPack run to start the frame set the tone early with Flowerday firing in back-to-back aces. The Huskies cut that lead to two points multiple times but a kill from Matthew Hamilton put the set away.
  • After Saskatchewan took the second and third sets, TRU did their best to force a fifth. After falling behind 10-5 early, the 'Pack fought back all the way to trailing just 22-20. With the score now 24-20 in favour of the Huskies, TRU fought off three match points before eventually falling 25-23. Rylan Ibbetson had a team-high four kills in the fourth.
NOTABLE
  • Leinemann's eight kills were a new career-high with the WolfPack for the Kelowna product.
  • Flowerday's 11 kills move him to 994 on his CW career. He is just six kills away from becoming the second player in program history and 29th in conference history to break the 1,000 kill mark.
  • Saskatchewan is ranked eighth in the nation.

QUOTABLE (WolfPack head coach, Pat Hennelly)
  • I'm proud of the fight the guys showed this weekend. It was an especially solid effort from Jakob Leinemann and Mason Sodaro in the middle.

UP NEXT
  • The game was the final in the first semester for the 'Pack. They will be back in action on January 10 inside the TCC.
