Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack boost postseason hopes with dominant sweep of Bobcats

QUICK FIRE
  • A straight-sets 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-18) victory for the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team put the finishing touches on their weekend sweep of the Brandon Bobcats out on the road.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Brooklyn Olfert, who ranks among the league leaders in kills, had a game-high 13 for TRU. Rookie Keira Gent added nine and Ema Palkovicova chipped in with a further eight. Middles Addison Witkowski and Myah Cressy each contributed five kills while Cressy added a pair of solo blocks and three block assists. Setter Libby Meldrum continued her strong campaign with 35 assists and a trio of aces.
  • Camryn Hildebrand led Brandon with eight kills on her 20 attacks. Fellow graduating athlete Avery Burgar added another five kills for the Bobcats.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • TRU dominated at the service line in the game with 13 aces to the Bobcat's three.
  • The WolfPack also held a massive edge in kills as they nearly doubled Brandon's output of 21 with 40 of their own.
NOTABLE
  • The victory was a massive one in the CW standings for a young TRU team angling to return to the playoffs. TRU's record of 8-14 moves them into a four-way tie with the Calgary Dinos, Saskatchewan Huskies and Mount Royal Cougars for the final postseason berth.
  • The win marks TRU's eighth victory of the CW campaign, their highest total since they won a program-record 16 games in the 2019-20 season.
  • Olfert is now second win the conference with 286 kills through 22 games this season.
  • With Senior Night on the horizon next weekend the 'Pack will celebrate the career of Ema Palkovicova during their final home weekend of the 2023-24 season.
QUOTABLE - Head coach, Chad Grimm
  • "Overall I thought the girls did a really good job. We were really good from the endline and served the ball tough which obviously helped our block and defence"
  • "We didn't get too high or too low, just took care of business so anytime out on the road you can come away with two wins is obviously good and these were important matches for us. Generally I thought it was a good group effort with great contributions from the bench aswell. Madison Maichin and Kate Lamothe came in and scored some points and made good plays defensively."

UP NEXT
  • TRU will return to Kamloops to wrap up their 2023-24 regular season schedule with a pair of massive games against the MRU Cougars.
