Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack back to winning ways with victory over Bobcats

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team took care of business in four sets Friday night in Brandon to earn a hard-fought 3-1 (25-17, 25-18, 21-25, 25-20) victory on the road.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Brooklyn Olfert (18 kills), Ema Palkovicova (15) and Keira Gent (12) formed a three-headed attack for the 'Pack with Olfert also contributing three service aces.
  • Avery Burgar had 11 kills to pace the Bobcats.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • TRU had a commanding edge of 14 kills to Brandon's six en route to taking the first set by a tally of 25-17. A 10-5 WolfPack run that featured three kills from Palkovicova saw TRU turn a 9-9 match into a commanding 19-14 edge. Kate Lamothe would see out the first set with a service for the 'Pack.
  • The story was much the same in a second set that saw TRU rack up 13 kills and three aces to take the frame 25-18. The Bobcats held a lead at 16-15 before TRU responded with a dominant 9-1 run capped off by a kill from Gent. Rookie middle Myah Cressy ended the set with a kill.
  • After Brandon took the third set, TRU made sure to end the match in the fourth. The WolfPack snagged a four-point lead at 12-8 and never looked back to take the victory. Brandon fought off four set-points before Gent finished the match with a big swing.
NOTABLE
  • The win was TRU's seventh of the season as they now hold a record of 7-14.
  • The WolfPack are just one game back of the Saskatchewan Huskies and Calgary Dinos who are tied for the eighth and final playoff spot.
QUOTABLE - Head coach, Chad Grimm
  • "Overall for the most part I thought we did okay, when we put service pressure in we were successful but at some points we started to make a few too many errors and then started to play it safe. Brandon did a good job defensively and went on some good serving runs as well."
  • "Tomorrow they'll be tough again, they can be dangerous so hopefully we are ready to go but overall it's always good to get a win on the road."

UP NEXT
  • TRU will try to complete the sweep tomorrow when these two teams do battle once again at 3:00 p.m. PT.
