KAMLOOPS – A versatile attacking player with experience at the American collegiate level is the newest signing for the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team as head coach
John Antulov announced that Tommy Moon has committed to the 'Pack.
"I'm really excited about the opportunity to join the 'Pack," said Moon. "The program here is really highly regarded and from what I can see there is a great sense of family amongst the group. I can't wait to get started."
An adaptable midfielder with an eye towards attacking, Moon joins TRU after spending a year with Davis & Elkins College at the NCAA Division 2 level in West Virginia.
"Tommy is one of those young attacking pieces that are key," said Antulov. "He can play in multiple positions and even in a deeper midfield position, so I think he's going to help our ability to go forward and attack. One of our focuses this year was trying to find really good attacking pieces that are going to help us try to win games."
From Wellington, New Zealand, Moon has been playing soccer since the age of six and joined the Miramar Rangers academy at ten years old.
"I would describe myself as a creative midfielder, someone who likes to link the play between defense and attack," said Moon. "I see myself as a technical player who can provide chances for my teammates and chip in with some goals."
Holding Canadian citizenship through his mother, TRU got on Moon's radar after he decided to transfer from Davis & Elkins.
"Once I decided I wanted to transfer the idea of coming to Canada was very appealing to me," said Moon. "When I spoke with Coach Antulov and learnt more about the program, I knew it would be a great place for me to pursue my soccer and my studies."
A Wellington National Age Group representative in 2021, Moon is also successful in the classroom having earned a spot on the Dean's List in his first semester at Davis & Elkins.
"He spent a year with a good, solid program down in the US so I think that experience is going to carry over to us and I think he's going to add that to our team which will help us moving forward," said Antulov.
Moon plans to study business administration at TRU and will join the program in time for the 2024-25 season.
