KAMLOOPS – Local talent Griffin Ansley will get the opportunity to play for his hometown team after head coach
John Antulov announced that the South Kamloops Secondary product has committed to the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team.
"Coach John's incredible mentorship, which has played a pivotal role in my development over the years and his willingness to give me a chance, particularly after overcoming a major injury, truly speaks volumes about his commitment to supporting athletes," said Ansley. "Being given the opportunity to play high-level soccer in my hometown is something that I'm incredibly grateful for."
A 5-9 midfielder, Ansley's transition to the post secondary level will be eased by a longstanding relationship with Antulov.
"I've had the chance to work with Griffin since he was nine years old and I've really seen his progression over the years," said Antulov. "He's smart, technically sound and sees the game really well – he has a really high soccer I.Q."
A soccer journey that began at the youth level with Kamloops Youth Soccer Association has seen Ansley also play with the Kamloops Whitecaps Academy and Thompson Okanagan FC.
"The familiarity with me as a coach and players that he's grown up with definitely will help Griffin," said Antulov. "There are areas of the game that he will have to continue to work on and develop in, but knows that he can do that here and it's going to be an environment where's going to get the chance to learn and grow."
A smart, technical, hard working and versatile player who is comfortable playing most positions on the field, Ansley has most recently suited up with Rivers FC 2.
An honour roll student throughout his time at SKSS, Ansley plans to study business at TRU.
"He is a really good kid and has a great opportunity to develop here," said Antulov.
