Weekend Story

KAMLOOPS – For the second time this season the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's soccer team will get to play inside the friendly confines of Hillside Stadium this weekend.

While the 'Pack are just five games into their 14-game regular season schedule, the games this weekend are already games that promise to play a large role in the Canada West playoff picture.

Hosting the UVic Vikes (3-1-1) on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and the MRU Cougars (1-3-1) on Saturday at 7:00 p.m., the 2-3 WolfPack will be looking to solidify their hold on the fourth and final playoff spot in the division.

A difficult road trip last weekend resulted in three points for the 'Pack. Starting in Prince George against the UNBC Timberwolves, the 'Pack were powered by goals from Sophia Branby and Berea Woldeyes en route to a 2-1 victory. The squad then travelled down to Vancouver to face the UBC Thunderbirds where Cassandra De Amaral made nine saves in the game but the 'Pack fell 1-0 to the reigning national champions.

UVic secured a pair of impressive results of their own in their last action. They tied Trinity Western 1-1 before defeating Frasery Valley by a tally of 4-1.

The Cougars played those very same squads and were able to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Fraser Valley with a 2-2 tie against the Spartans.

While the WolfPack are yet to secure a victory against the Vikes in regular season play, they did defeat UVic in a shootout just two seasons ago to secure the first playoff win the program's CW history.

The 'Pack hold a 3-1 edge over MRU in the four regular season games that the teams have played, including a 3-1 result to open their season last year.

3 Things

1: Fryer's Express will be serving up food at both games.

2: All season long members of KYSA, Soccer Quest and TOFC will receive free entry to WolfPack games by wearing their team jerseys.

3: Soccer freestyler Julian Muckle will entertain the crowd at halftime on Saturday.

By The Numbers

3: From TRU in fourth to UNBC in eighth, five teams in the Pacific Division are separated by just three points.

10: Currently tied with both Marisa Mendonca and Chantal Gammie, WolfPack captain Ainsley Grether needs just one more goal to set the program's career Canada West goal scoring record.
