Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | TRU WolfPack

Vikes double-up short-handed WolfPack

QUICK FIRE
  • A pair of first half goals and a critical decision from the referee were the difference on the night, as the visiting UVic Vikes earned a 2-0 victory over the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team at Hillside Stadium Saturday night.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Olivier Jumeau and Luca Ortu split the game in net for TRU with Jumeau finishing the game with four saves and Ortu one.
  • Mattheus Achadinha and Matthew Pearse both scored for the Vikes. Harry Ritter West provided an assist while Callum Weir secured the shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jumeau came up big for TRU early with a pair of early stops off the foot of Alex Moody.
  • The UVic breakthrough came in the 12th minute of play. Ritter West cut a cross through the 18-yard box to a waiting Achadinha at the back post.
  • That lead was doubled just five minutes later on a near-identical play, only this time it was Pearse that finished off the move with a goal.
  • Hope of a TRU comeback was all but extinguished with just minutes left to play in the first half when a red card was given to a WolfPack defender, leaving TRU to play the rest of the game with just ten men.
  • Despite being shorthanded for the remaining half of the contest, the WolfPack continued to defend doggedly and shut the door the rest of the way.

NOTABLE
  • TRU is now 1-8-1 on the season while the Vikes climb to 7-1-3.

UP NEXT
  • TRU will hit the road next weekend when they face the UFV Cascades (5-3-2) and the TWU Spartans (3-4-1) in the Lower Mainland.
