Season Story

KAMLOOPS – With one regular season game already under their belts, the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women's soccer team will look to play the first home games of their 2024 season this weekend at Hillside Stadium.

Taking on the No. 3 nationally ranked TWU Spartans on Friday and at 5 p.m. as well as the UFV Cascades on Saturday at 7 p.m., the games will be a tough test to start the home schedule for the WolfPack.

Both nights are set to be exciting affairs with the annual WolfPack x TRUSU $3500 tuition draw taking place Friday. On Saturday the 'Pack will host Family Day with a bouncy castle and face painting station on hand at the field.

A veteran group returns to the field this year for TRU, after the team had just one player graduate from the program last season. Stalwarts of the program Ainsley Grether, Jessye Large, Caylah Lemon and Raiya Rumo are all entering their final year with TRU and will be counted on to provide leadership to an incoming recruiting class that features seven new faces.

The 'Pack will be on the hunt to a return to the CW postseason after just narrowly missing out last year. The core of the team that made it all the way to the Canada West Final Four in 2022 still remains as the 'Pack will once again battle in the always-competitive Pacific Division of Canada West soccer.

Despite just missing out on the playoffs last season, the 'Pack still put together one of the best seasons in the program's Canada West history as they finished with a record of 5-7-2.

The 'Pack fell to the Spartans by a score of 4-0 and earned a 1-1 tie with UFV last year with both games coming on the road.

TRU earned some positive results and participated in some close battles throughout a competitive preseason. Travelling across the border to face NCAA Division 1 opponents Idaho and Eastern Washington, TRU put up a battle with an Idaho squad that made it all the way to the NCAA Tournament before falling 3-0. The next day against EWU they did even better in a tight 3-1 defeat.

The 'Pack then put together three-straight wins of 6-1 over Lethbridge, 10-0 over Capilano and 3-2 over the Alberta Pandas.

Key Performer

Raiya Rumo, Defence, 4th year, Courtice ON

Already the most decorated player in program history, Raiya Rumo is back for one more season with the WolfPack in 2024-25. The lightning-fast centre back was named the program's first-ever Canada West First Team All-Star last season as she was recognized as one of the top defender's in the country. As well as shutting down opposition strikers, the product of Courtice, Ont. has also proven to be a threat moving forward with the ability to strike from set pieces

Key Additions

Hannah Dhillon / forward / 1st year / Langley, BC / Langley United
Paige Dwane / defence / 1st year / Surrey, BC / Langley United
