Weekend Story

KAMLOOPS – After putting together one of the most successful first semesters in program history, the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team is back in action on home court this weekend as they are set to take on the Winnipeg Wesmen inside the TCC.

Taking on Winnipeg at 7:15 p.m. on Friday and 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, the games will see the No. 5 ranked WolfPack (8-2) host the Wesmen (5-5) in a battle between two squads that appear destined for postseason berths.

Nationally ranked every week so far this season in the U SPORTS Top 10, the WolfPack's only two losses of the first semester came to the No. 2 ranked UFV Cascades on the road. The WolfPack sandwiched those losses to UFV with sweeps over the Manitoba Bisons, UBC Okanagan Heat, TWU Spartans and Saskatchewan Huskies.

The 5-5 Wesmen finished the first semester as winners in four of their final five games. Their most impressive victory of the first semester came in early November when they defeated those very same UFV Cascades in Abbotsford.

These two teams met up just after the winter break last year, as they split a pair of games in Winnipeg.

3 Things

1: Papa Murphy's will be serving up pizza inside the TCC all season long.

2: Friday night is KVA Night in the TCC. All Kamloops Volleyball Association members will enter the games for free with special prizes up for grabs.

3: The WolfPack and Wesmen are an even 15-15 in the 30 conference games that the two teams have played since 2006-07.

By The Numbers

2 & 3: The two-pronged WolfPack attack of Brooklyn Olfert and Rida Erlalelitepe sit second and third in the conference with 3.67 and 3.63 kills-per-set respectively.

868: Olfert's 868 kills are second in the program's history. A big showing this weekend and the product of Winnipeg could eclipse the 900 mark against her hometown squad.

16.9: TRU is second in the conference and fifth in the nation with 16.9 points-per-set as a team.
