Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack do best to battle back, can’t overcome early deficit

QUICK FIRE
  • They controlled the match for much of the night but the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team was unable to recover after conceding early in a 1-0 loss to the TWU Spartans Saturday.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Ben Finley had a pair of shots on goal for the WolfPack while Matheus Lucas was commanding in the middle of the pitch. Toran Rutherford made four stops in the game.
  • Yeshua Silwamba made three stops to pick up the shutout for the Spartans. Emmanuel Dan-Adokiene scored the goal for TWU with Garreth Rayner earning the assist.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • TWU opened the scoring just five minutes into the match. Dan-Adokiene received a pass on the far side of the WolfPack 18-yard box and cut in on his right foot before unleashing a shot that blazed into the top corner of the net.
  • The WolfPack did their best to respond quickly with Finley forcing Silwamba into a couple saves in quick succession  that the TWU goalie was able to corral. TRU kept that pressure up for the rest of the first half and earned back-to-back corner kicks in the 30th minute but the teams headed into the halftime break with TWU leading 1-0.
  • The WolfPack dominated proceedings in the second half. Again TRU earned back-to-back corner kicks in the 50th minute of play only for the chances to go wanting.
  • TRU had a trio of strong scoring opportunities throughout the rest of the match.Lucas unleashed a long-range blast in the 69th minute that blocked by a TWU defender. Abdel Coulibaly made a great move to create enough space to whip in a cross in the 75th minute that the WolfPack forwards just barely missed.
  • A corner kick in extra time from Finley saw Ryan Prasad rise highest to meet but he was just unable to direct his effort towards net.

NOTABLE
  • The result moves TRU to 3-11-1 on the season and brings an end to their chances of making the Canada West postseason.
  • Tomorrow's game against Fraser Valley will be TRU's last regular season contest of 2025-26.

UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will wrap up their season tomorrow at noon when they welcome the UFV Cascades to Hillside Stadium.
