Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack play Heat to stalemate in season finale

QUICK FIRE
  • In their final action of 2025 the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's soccer team threatened but were unable to find the game-winning tally in a 0-0 tie with the UBC Okanagan Heat Sunday afternoon.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Makayla Kusch made three saves to record the shutout in her first start of the season. Esi Lufo had two shots on goal.
  • Allyson Ford made four stops to earn the shutout for UBCO.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A strong save from Kusch in the 15th minute and a great tackle from Paige Dwane in the 38th minute kept UBCO off the board in the first half. The WolfPack earned some chances from set pieces but couldn't beat Ford and the two teams headed into the break at 0-0.
  • TRU had the better of the play in the second half and earned a pair of great scoring chances late.
  • First Alexis Virgo unleashed a rocket of a free-kick towards from just outside the 18-yard box that Ford was able to tip over the bar and then minutes later Macyn Jolly forced a turnover deep in MRU's half but Ford was able to snag her shot on target.
  • Neither team was able to break the deadlock late.

NOTABLE
  • The WolfPack finish the season with a record of 5-8-1, their five wins ties for the second-most in program history.
  • Prior to the game the 'Pack celebrated graduating student-athletes Katie Chun and Allie Shiyuk. The two combined for more than 100 games played in their WolfPack careers and earned nine U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian honours.

QUOTABLE (WolfPack head coach Mark Pennington)
  • I don't think we created enough across the whole game so a little bit disappointed in the production around the goal but you can't knock the girl's effort they went 100 per cent as they have all year.
  • I thought the two seniors were great. Paige Dwane was good and it's great for Makayla Kusch to come in and get the shutout in her first game of the year.
  • I can't think of many teams in the country that are starting five rookies so we are excited to see where this group can go.
