Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack sweep Griffins to complete perfect start to season

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team remain perfect through their first two games of 2025-26 after they earned another 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-22) victory over the MacEwan Griffins.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • It was again third-year outsides Hail Ward and Keira Gent leading the WolfPack offence. Ward earned 12 kills on just 22 attacks while also racking up a game-high seven blocks. Gent added 10 kills, a trio of solo blocks and nine digs. In her first action of the season, fifth-year middle Faith Christensen had an efficient seven kills on 12 swings while also adding six blocks.
  • Alyshia Bryks led MacEwan with eight kills. Alana Murr added seven for the home team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • TRU kept their momentum from last night's sweep going early into today's game. The WolfPack started the set with a 9-2 run that featured two kills apiece and a combined block for Christensen and Ward. The WolfPack only grew the lead from there as Ward led the way with four kills and Lucy Millam put the finishing touches on the 25-12 victory with a kill.
  • The second set followed much the same story as the first. The WolfPack took control early thanks to three-straight blocks. First Ward and Christensen combined for two in a row before Gent put down a solo block to put an exclamation mark on a quick 7-2 edge. Ward and Gent both had four kills in the set and it was the Kamloopsian Ward who ended the frame with a kill to give TRU the 25-17 victory.
  • While the third set was the closest, TRU was in the lead for the vast majority of it. Trailing 11-9 the WolfPack ripped off a quick 4-0 run that featured a kill and solo block from Rida Erlalelitepe. The WolfPack really took command of the set thanks to a dominant serving run from Libby Meldrum. A 7-0 stretch powered by an ace from the fourth-year setter gave TRU a 20-15 lead that they wouldn't surrender en route to the victory.

QUOTABLE (WolfPack head coach Chad Grimm)
  • "Obviously happy with the weekend result, it's never easy to win twice on the road. I thought the girls came out with a good level of focus and intensity and followed the game plan quite well for the most part.
  • The third set we started to slip a little bit with not executing as well as we wanted to but I think all in all the girls hung in there and pushed through to get the job done.
  • I thought Hail Ward had another good night, Libby Meldrum again distributed the ball well, Olivia Andulajevic was really solid in reception and defence all weekend and it was nice to see Keira Gent have great back-to-back nights too so overall I'm happy with the weekend.

NOTABLE
  • This is the first the WolfPack have started a Canada West season with back-to-back 3-0 victories.
  • The WolfPack won the battle at the net, racking up 20 blocks to MacEwan's 13.

UP NEXT
  • The 'Pack will return to Kamloops and get set for their home-opener next weekend when they host the Saskatchewan Huskies inside the TCC on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. The game on Friday gets underway at 5:30 p.m. with first serve Saturday set for 3:00 p.m.
