WOLFPACK TOP 20 MOMENTS IN 20 YEARS – A magical postseason for women's soccer in 2022
The 'Pack are continuing our countdown of the top 20 moments in the first 20 years of the WolfPack with a playoff run for the ages.
After finishing the Canada West regular season with a record of 6-6-2 and earning just the second playoff spot in the program's WolfPack history, women's socccer won back-to-back shootouts over UVic and MRU to advance all the way to the Canada West Final Four.
In the play-in game at Hillside a goal from
Ainsley Grether in the 86th minute forced a shootout where Marissa Young was the hero with back-to-back penalty stops to beat the Vikes. The eruption that followed will go down in WolfPack lore as fans stormed the field to celebrate with the squad.
After going down 2-0 early the next week against MRU in a conference quarter-final, goals from Camryn Curts, Hawan Abdissa and
Alexis Virgo in the second half sent the game to another shootout.
Allie Shiyuk put away the game-winning penalty to see the 'Pack advance past the Prairie Division No. 1 seed and to the Canada West Final Four for the first time in program history.
