Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack flip script to take care of Huskies in three

QUICK FIRE
  • A bounce back effort from the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team saw them run away from the Saskatchewan Huskies with a 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-17) victory inside the TCC Saturday afternoon.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • It was an efficient night in attack for a WolfPack offence that received meaningful contributions from multiple people. Keira Gent led the way with 12 kills on just 18 swings as well as putting down four service aces. Rida Erlalelitepe added 11 kills, Hail Ward chipped in with 10 kills and five aces while Faith Christensen had nine kills on 12 attacks. Libby Meldrum directed the offence with 37 assists in just three sets.
  • Keely Anderson led Saskatchewan with eight kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The WolfPack came out of the gates flying to take the first set by a dominant tally of 25-15. After the teams traded points early, the frame was decided on a monster 9-1 WolfPack run that took the score from 13-12 in favour of TRU all the way to 22-13. During that run Gent had a pair of kills and an ace, Meldrum and Maria Dancheva combined for a big block before Meldrum put the frame to bed with an ace of her own. Gent had seven kills on just ten attacks to lead the way for the 'Pack.
  • TRU showed great resilience to take the second set. Trailing by as many as five points early, the 'Pack clawed their way back into the match with a big block from Dancheva bringing the two teams level at 18-18. A Gent Ace gave TRU their first lead of the set at 20-19 and quick kills from Ward, Meldrum and Christensen put TRU in control at 23-20. The Huskies fought back to but back-to-back kills from Erlalelitepe gave TRU the win at 26-24.
  • A pair of aces early from Gent set the tone in the third as the WolfPack received contributions from throughout the line up en route to the 25-17 set victory that secured the 3-0 win for the 'Pack.

QUOTABLE (WolfPack head coach Chad Grimm)
  • I think we did a much better job on first contact and put them in a little more trouble on serve, receive. Yesterday I thought we were a little too focused on hitting a target instead of swinging aggressively.
  • Tonight compared to last night we were just smoother, we passed the ball better. I thought Libby Meldrum had a better game and our attackers were just able to find edges. Overall, it was much smoother.
  • Rida was efficient tonight, Keira had a good bounce back. Faith hit well yesterday but Libby did a good job of activating her more and of course that comes with better passing. I think when we have the ability to have a threat in the middle it opens up people like Keira and Rida and makes their night easier as well.

NOTABLE
  • The win moves TRU to 3-1 on the year.
  • TRU hit .376 per cent as a team compared to Saskatchewan's mark of .089.
  • The WolfPack tallied 12 service aces in the game with five from Hail Ward and four from Keira Gent leading the way.
