Weekend Story
KAMLOOPS – A battle between two teams ranked in the top 10 in the nation is on tap inside the TCC this weekend when the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team hosts the Manitoba Bisons.
Facing the Bisons at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, the games will pit two of the strongest teams in the nation against one another. TRU enters the weekend at the top of the Canada West conference standings and are ranked No. 10 in the latest U SPORTS Top 10 poll. Manitoba, the reigning U SPORTS National champions, were ranked two spots ahead of TRU at No. 8.
The WolfPack (8-2) enter the weekend as winners of their last four straight games. On the road in Kelowna last weekend, the WolfPack defeated the UBC Okanagan Heat by 3-0 on Friday and 3-2 on Saturday. Middle
Maria Dancheva was incredibly efficient both nights, finishing with 18 kills and 11 blocks on the weekend.
Libby Meldrum directed the offence to the tune of 73 assists in the two games.
Manitoba (6-2) have also won four in a row. They went a perfect 3-0, 3-0 over the Regina Cougars at home in their last action.
TRU won both games that the two teams played last year, handing the Bisons two of the four Canada West regular season losses that they suffered all season.
