Weekend Story

KAMLOOPS – Ranked ninth in the nation, the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team will return to action inside the TCC for the first time in nearly a month as they are set to welcome the MRU Cougars to Kamloops this weekend.

Taking on MRU at 7:15 p.m. on Friday and 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, the games will see the 'Pack (10-6) facing a Mount Royal squad (11-5) that is one spot ahead of them in the Canada West standings.

Nationally ranked every week so far this season in the U SPORTS Top 10, the WolfPack will be looking to get back on track after a two-week span that saw them face off with the No. 4 ranked Alberta Pandas and the No. 1 ranked UBC Thunderbirds. TRU acquitted themselves well in losses to the reigning U SPORTS silver and gold medallists but will now look to get back into the win column at home.

The Cougars enter the weekend as one of the hottest teams in the conference, having won their last seven games in a row. In the second semester MRU has recorded sweeps of the Brandon Bobcats, Regina Cougars and MacEwan Griffins.

These teams met twice last season with TRU earning back-to-back wins over MRU inside the TCC.

3 Things

1: Papa Murphy's will be serving up pizza inside the TCC all season long.

2: Currently in sixth-place in the CW standings, the 'Pack have the opportunity to jump MRU for fifth-place this weekend. Teams that finish first through sixth will earn a bye through the first round of the CW playoffs.

3: This will be the second-to-last home weekend of the regular season for the 'Pack.

By The Numbers

222: Outside hitter Rida Erlalelitepe of the 'Pack sits third in the conference and sixth in Canada with 222 kills so far this year.

921: Already second in the program record books with 921 career kills, the WolfPack's Brooklyn Olfert is nearing the 1000 mark. She would become just the 21st player in Canada West history to break that barrier.

2.02: A key for the weekend could come at the service line where MRU is fourth in the conference with 2.02 service aces per set.
