Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | TRU WolfPack

Dinos defeat WolfPack at Hillside

QUICK FIRE
  • A trio of goals in the first half sparked the Calgary Dinos to a 4-0 victory over the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team Saturday night at Hillside Stadium.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Abdel Coulibaly led the WolfPack in shot attempts with five throughout the match. Marcus D'Andrea, Domenico Comita and Lewis Crompton all put up strong defensive efforts to limit the Dinos scoring chances in the second half.
  • Calgary's Owen Antoniuk was all over the scoresheet Saturday night putting up two assists to go along with his goal in the first half. Soliman Aria, Kimia Kassanda and Josral Frederick each added a goal for the Dinos.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Calgary's first two goals came within mere minutes of each other. Aria opened the scoring in the eighth minute after a cross from Joey Plenzik found him at the back-post for a close-range strike. The Dinos' second goal came from the foot of Antoniuk off a quick counter-attack that was set-up by Kassanda.
  • After Calgary increased their lead to three, the 'Pack came close to clawing one back. Second-year midfielder Abdel Coulibaly placed a beautiful strike towards the top left corner of the Dinos net but Calgary keeper, Oliver Allen, was able to catch a piece of the ball to send it up and over the crossbar.
  • WolfPack goalie Toran Rutherford returned the favour with a beautiful diving stop of his own in the 68th minute as he shut down a blast from Antoniuk.
  • TRU had their best scoring chance of the second half courtesy of the hard work of rookie Ryan Prasad but his effort towards net from a corner kick was blocked by a diving Dinos' defender in the 72nd minute.
  • The 'Pack put up a formidable defensive effort which left the Dinos scoreless for the majority of the second half until the last minute of regulation play when the Dinos made it four.

UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will hit the road next weekend as they travel to Edmonton for a pair of games in Alberta's capital. The 'Pack will face the MacEwan Griffins on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 1:15 p.m. PT before taking on the Alberta Golden Bears at that same time the very next day.
