Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | TRU WolfPack

Pair of first half goals sink WolfPack in loss to No. 8 Vikes

QUICK FIRE
  • Taking on their second top 10 ranked opponent in the nation in as many nights, the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team was unable to pull of the upset as they fell 2-0 to the UVic Vikes.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Ben Finley, Minwoo Kang and Kaleb Voth all had shots on net for TRU. Luca Ortu made a couple spectacular saves in net for the 'Pack.
  • Matthew Pearse and Takin Keshavarz scored the goals for UVic while Callum Weird made three stops to record the shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The hosts opened the scoring just ten minutes into the game when Alexander Moody lifted a ball into the box that Pearse was able to volley into the back of the net.
  • TRU's best chance in the first half came in the 23rd minute when Lachlan Will played a ball forward to Finley but his first-time strike went just wide of the goal.
  • The Vikes doubled their lead just minutes before the halftime whistle to take a 2-0 edge into the break.
  • The WolfPack played their best soccer of the game late and dominated the final ten minutes in search of a goal.
  • A pair of Voth chances were sandwiched by one from Finley. First, in the 80th minute Voth tried an acrobatic overhead kick that just went wide. Ten minutes later Finley whipped a dangerous free-kick from 25 yards out that just barely found the side-netting. The WolfPack's best chance of the night came on the final kick of the game. A corner kick fell to Voth and his blistering effort beat Weir but not a defender on the goalline as the Vikes were able to clear the ball away.

UP NEXT
