Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

Efficient attack leads No. 4 WolfPack to victory

QUICK FIRE
  • Contributions from throughout the lineup were key to victory for a Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team that took down the UFV Cascades 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-21) inside the TCC Saturday afternoon.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Three players hit double-digits in kills for the WolfPack. Rida Erlalelitepe (15), Keira Gent (13) and Hail Ward (10). Maria Dancheva was a force to be reckoned with at the net with three solo and six block assists in the game while also adding five kills of her own.
  • For the second night in a row sisters Talia and Lauren Attieh powered the Cascades attack with 15 and 13 kills respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The match started much the same it did one night ago, with the Cascades jumping out to an early lead scoring eight of the game's first ten points. The WolfPack battled back thanks to four kills apiece from Gent and Erlalelitepe and fought off four set points, but it was too little too late as Fraser Valley took the first set 25-20.
  • TRU flipped the script in the second, hitting just under .600 per cent as a team to run away with it. The turning point in the second came in the latter portion of the frame. Trailing 16-15 the WolfPack ripped off a quick 6-1 run that featured two kills and block by Ward as well as a kill and an ace from Myah Cressy to take a 21-17 advantage. A big solo block from Dancheva kept momentum going for the 'Pack as they took the second 25-20.
  • The WolfPack took control of the match in the third set. A 6-1 WolfPack run – during which both Gent and Cressy had a pair of kills - early on sent TRU to a five-point lead at 15-10. From there the WolfPack controlled the remainder of the frame with a block from Gent and Dancheva ending the set with the WolfPack winning 25-20.
  • TRU put the game away in the fourth with a 10-1 sending them all the way to an unassailable 18-10 advantage. Erlalelitepe dominated the set with seven kills to help TRU take the 25-21 victory and claim the match.

NOTABLE
  • The result moves TRU to a record of 12-4 on the season where they remain in third place in the conference.
  • The WolfPack entered the weekend ranked a program-record fourth in the nation.
  • Every WolfPack player that attempted more than five attacks in the game finished with a hitting percentage of .300 or better.
  • The WolfPack made fewer attack errors (11-17) and fewer service errors (13-18) than the Cascades in the match.

UP NEXT
  • The 'Pack will remain in Kamloops next weekend as they get set for their final regular season home games of 2025-26. TRU will take on the conference-leading Alberta Pandas Jan. 30 & 31 in games that get underway at 5:30 & 3:00 p.m.
