Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

Cougars best WolfPack in four sets

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's volleyball team battled back to take the second but couldn't find a way past the MRU Cougars in a 3-1 (25-16, 20-25, 25-18, 25-20) loss to complete their opening weekend season Saturday night.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • For the second night in a row it was rookie Mostafa Tayea leading the WolfPack attack with 13 kills on the night. Kamloops local Alex Howard added nine while Daniel Hitchens was efficient through the middle with eight kills on 12 attempts. Walker Sodaro added 37 assists.
  • Michael McAlpine was the story offensively for MRU, hitting .750 per cent in the game with nine kills on 12 attempts and no errors.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a slow start in the first set saw them fall 25-16, the WolfPack bounced back to take the second.
  • Hitting .500 per cent as a team in the frame, a 7-2 run that featured three kills and block from rookie Elliott Rourke to start the second set the tone for what was to come. A pair of kills from Howard late put the finishing touches on the 25-20 set victory for the WolfPack.
  • That was the only set that went the WolfPack's way however as MRU took the third 25-18 before finishing the game off with a 25-20 win in the fourth.

UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will be back in Kamloops next weekend as they welcome the Alberta Golden Bears for their home-openers. First up is a game Friday night at 5:30 p.m. followed by a Saturday matinee that gets underway at 3:00 p.m.
