Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack's season comes to an end in valiant battle with Dinos

QUICK FIRE
  • Knowing that their playoffs hopes were on the line, the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's volleyball team left it all on the court Saturday night in a 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-21) loss to the Calgary Dinos that was close throughout the entire match.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Parker Bailey continued his strong finish to the season, leading the 'Pack with 13 kills in the game. Middle Daniel Hitchens added seven kills on just 11 swings and Kamloopsian Brandon Johnson tallied seven digs and 22 successful serve receptions.
  • Will Kay led the Dinos with ten kills on the night. Luke Nodwell finished with six kills and 11 blocks for the hosts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Calgary took a first set that couldn't have been closer. A 4-1 WolfPack run that saw kills from Hitchens, Bailey and Alex Howard gave the 'Pack a lead late at 18-16. The Dinos responded to jump out to a 22-21 edge and while Rylan Ibbetson and Bailey tallied kills down the stretch the Dinos eked out the first set 25-23.
  • TRU did everything they could to mount a monumental comeback in the second. With Calgary on set point at 24-17, Howard fired in a kill and a service with Ibbetson adding a pair of kills as TRU fought off five set points but couldn't quite complete the comeback in a 25-22 defeat. Howard led the way with four kills in the set for the 'Pack.
  • Bailey tallied five kills in the third for TRU, but Calgary was able to pull out the set and match victory with a 25-21 win.

NOTABLE
  • The loss ends the WolfPack season as they find themselves just outside of the Canada West playoff picture.

QUOTABLE (WolfPack head coach Pat Hennelly)
  • Tough night. We came out strong in the first set and serving errors really cost us. We needed to get some momentum in the second and couldn't put it together.
  • Parker Bailey had a great night along with Brandon Johnson.
